The
pain of chronic diseases such as arthritis, tendonitis, and fibromyalgia
can often be lessened by the use of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
Modern medications for these disorders commonly cause side effects
that are not seen with acupuncture treatment. Symptoms associated
with arthritis and fibromyalgia such as problems sleeping, fatigue,
and depression, can also respond to skillfully applied acupuncture.
Arthritis is known as Bi-Syndrome in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Acupuncture has been treating arthritis for the last 3,000 years with
good results that have been verified by NIH funded research studies
in the United States. There are no side effects from the use of acupuncture.
It helps with the pain of arthritis, reduces inflammation and helps
prevent the need for joint replacement with early treatment. Chronic
arthritis develops if the early symptoms are not treated.
My own experience suggests that acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine
are more effective and much less unpleasant and dangerous than surgery,
steroids or NSAIDs to treat arthritis. Compared to these methods of
treatment, acupuncture therapy has no side effects. The treatment
of arthritis has to be individualized to your particular imbalance,
and this takes time and experience.
Treating arthritis with acupuncture should see results within 5 to
10 visits, and needs long term maintenance.
