After the age of 40, men are more likely to develop prostate problems. An enlarged prostate (called BPH, benign prostatic hyperplasia, or Prostatitis) may cause annoying or painful symptoms and eventually develops in approximately 80 percent of all men. Some symptoms that may indicate a prostate problem are a weak urinary stream, difficulty starting urination, frequent urination, urgency (difficulty postponing urination), awakening frequently at night to urinate, interruption of the stream (stopping and starting), blood in urine, pain or burning on urination.
Prostatitis is a very common disease of the urinary system in male. The common pathogens are staphylococcus, streptococcus, colibacillus, and others. It is often induced by excessive alcoholic drinking, injury of the perineum, excessive sexual intercourse.
Although the disease name of prostatitis does not exist in Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it belongs to the category of suspended yang-carbuncle, white turbidity, white evil, fatigue strangury, grease strangury, seminal turbidity, lumbar pains due to kidney deficiency and others. There are several types: Stasis Type, Damp-Heat and Kidney-deficiency types.
Causes of chronic prostatitis include dysfunction of the immune system, excessive sexual activities, indulgence in drinking too much alcohol, inflammation of the upper-respiratory tract, urethra, seminal vesicle, rectum, epididymis, perineum, and others.
TCM is effective treating prostatitis using Chinese herbal formulas that are specifically tailored to your individual pattern of disease and acupuncture are used to relieve the pain, clean up the urinary tract and improve the Qi and blood of the kidney. The period of time required for treatment is dependent on your specific case and the necessary time for the recovery will vary. Internal and external treatment are both important in the case of prostatitis. Life style changes can help enhance the immune system to hasten recovery.
BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia)
The likelihood of developing an enlarged prostate increases with age. In fact, BPH is so common that it has been said, "All men will have an enlarged prostate if they live long enough!" A small amount of prostate enlargement is present in many men over age 40 and more than 90% of men over age 80. Prostate enlargement is often called benign prostatic hypertrophy or hyperplasia (BPH). It is not cancer and it does not put you at increased risk for prostate cancer. The prostate gland produces the fluid that carries sperm during ejaculation. As the prostate enlarges, which happens to almost all men as they get older, it can press on the urethra (the tube that empties urine from the bladder). This causes problems with urination. It belongs to the category of (retention of urine) in TCM.
Chronic Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) Testimonial
I used to have severe UTI attacks every other month and was in and out of doctors offices all the time for the past seven years. Every time MDs would prescribe antibiotics for me. I developed chronic yeast infections after taking so many antibiotics. Since I started acupuncture with Dr. Yang in only four sessions, I no longer was having attacks. For the past three months I have had no yeast infection or UTI attacks. I hope more and more patients who suffer from chronic UTI or yeast infection will find Dr. Yang. She cured me with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine without any side effects. I think more of us should stay away from overuse of antibiotics and use acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Thank you Dr. Yang!
